Robots in The Factory -
The manner in which the industrial robot is integrated with the existing workforce appears to be a major factor in the success or failure of a robot installation. The psychological impact of the robot on the worker is an important consideration for a management team planning to introduce robotic welding equipment.
Ideally, robots should be integrated into the workforce in a manner that does not have adverse effects on worker attitudes, reward systems, occupational status or self esteem. When put on line without proper operator training and orientation, a robot can lower a worker's sense of achievement, responsibility and recognition. When properly integrated, a robot can increase an employee's pride by providing work that is more challenging and meaningful. It is important for the company to carefully develop an implementation plan one that directly involves the people who will be working with the robots. The best way is to get the people involved from the start. Educate the people, get them involved, and let them know why we are doing it, what it can do.
