Spraying - Dr. Ulrich Schoop developed the basic principles of metal spraying. In 1910, he designed a nozzle that permitted an annular flame to heat the (powder) particles as they were propelled onto a surface.
His further work led to the utilization of a wire in place of the powder and the equipment became known as wire metallizing gun.
Metallizing or Metal Spraying terms denoted the application of metallic coatings to a base metal.
Later on, when it became possible to deposit ceramic materials, also, by this process, a more general term known as Flame Spraying was coined. Flame spraying applied to the deposition of both metallic and non metallic materials, with the help of a combustion flame.
