A.C Arc Welding Maintenance

A.C Arc Welding Maintenance - Here the maintenance program followed depends upon type of are welder used transformer or doc motor generator type. Since transformer types are easier to maintain, we will start with them.
Twice a Year Blow out transformer with a low pressure (25 psi) air hose. Wear a nose protector while doing this so that you. Do not breathe too much dust. Tighten loose electrical connections and transformer supporting bolts.
Most ventilating fans on transformer type welders have sealed bearings that do not need oil. If this is the case with your unit, remove fan housing and check for free rotation of the shaft. Oil bearings if they are the type that require lubrication.
Inspect condensers. Buckled units or those that exude dielectric oil are blown and must be replaced. On welders with delay relay panels, the operating sequence should be as given in Table I. If there is any variation in the sequence, check main fuse.
Clean pilot relay contacts by pressing a naptha soaked cloth between them. Do not force contact arms apart. Never use emery cloth or other abrasives to clean contact points. Booster current falls off when delay relay contacts are dirty. Clean these with No. 00 sandpaper and naptha.
Clean motor operated controls once every three months instead of twice a year.
